I like the idea of making those operations more easily accessible, but
I'm not the sure of what's the best way of doing it. I feel that the VC
operations are not used frequently enough to deserve being always
visible at the bottom of the editor (which adds an important amount of
visual noise). In any case, that's something we can try.
