[MonoDevelop] Reading from a USB device.... attempting anyway

I just found this article http://www.mono-project.com/HowToSystemIOPorts that
says "There is no event notification for received serial data"... which
would explain my problem.  However, it also says that at the time of writing
it's mono 1.2.2.

Does anyone know if that limitation has been fixed and is able to trigger an
event when data is received by the device?

If it does not currently handle triggering of data arrival events, what
would be an example of the best way to read the data?
