[MonoDevelop] How to use debugegr in Mono Develop 2.0 in Ubuntu

I am using Mono Develop 2.0 from the build included in Ubuntu.

I am trying to debug a solution created with Mono Develop 1.0. The Debug
version is selected for the solution. It is a C program.

The problem is when I place a break point and press run, the progran does
not stop. 
On the other hand I cannot see in the Mono menus any of the options
associated to debuggers, step, debug etc. In fact, there is nothing that
could make you think you there is a debugger available.

Do I need to do something special to activate the debugger ?

Can anyone provide short intructions on how to use the debugger ?
