I actually think there is a PPA somewhere, but I do not recall where it is.

Anyway, if you share the troubles you are having compiling Mono and 
MonoDevelop, maybe we can help?  Are you setting up a parallel mono 
environment or something?  That is the best way to build Mono if your 
distro doesn't have the version you want:
