I can't help but ask, though, why would MD not use the GAC?

I probably am misunderstanding something, but I thought it should appear in this tab. I can still use the .Net assemblies tab to add the dll file itself, but I was wondering what the distinction was between 'assemblies' and 'packages' in the GAC.
