[MonoDevelop] glib problems compiling monodevelopment

Have a debian distro and would like to compile and use the latest
monodevelopment package ...
as part of this have to compile gtk-sharp2 .. and seem to be having a
whole series of hastles with incompatable packages ...
successfully updated the latest mono source ... has anyone been down
this route recently?
