[MonoDevelop] Assembly versions

I am have a problem using MonoDevelop with Assemblies.
The symptoms are this:

I build and run my code in MonoDevelop.
Then I modify my library code and build that using make.
I re-run my code in MD, but I get the error
"could not load file or assembly 'libagmessage, Version 1.0.2943.29799,
Culture=en_GB, PublicKeyToken=31974d4eb567f9ab' or one of its
dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified."

The file exists, and I have it as a symbolic link in the MD directory.

Please can someone tell me how I can get MD to see the new file?
