[MonoDevelop] Trying to centre windows in MD/C#

I have an application that displays modal windows and I want them to be centred on the application.  I have tried using 'centre parent' in the 'window position' member - but the windows still appear at the top left corner of the desk top.  Obviously I'm missing something - but do not know what.  Does anybody know how to do this so that I can fix my application.
