[MonoDevelop] Further findings re my inability to run MonoDevelop

The "System.DllNotFoundException: libglib-2.0-0.dll" error you were
getting suggests that your installation of mono or gtk# is broken. From
this starting point, I can't tell much about what's happening. You
should avoid the installer or compiling from source, and use the
packages for your distro instead. And if your distro does not have the
latest packages and you really need them, you should seriously consider
moving to another distro with proper support for Mono (OpenSUSE comes to
mind).
