Good guess. Looking at your trace, I see the qtcurve theme engine,
which has been causing a lot of MD crashes recently. When you su it
must be using different theme settings.

It will almost certainly be fixed by using another theme engine; I
suggest a clearlooks-based theme such as Gilouche.
