[MonoDevelop] Build Version and Recent Solutions Problems

I have two problems:

1.  Choosing "Release" in the build toolbar has no effect.  I always
get a debug build (or at least, the output always goes to the
"bin\Debug" directory).

2.  The most recently opened solutions list never gets updated.  This
is true for both the File > Recent Solutions menu item and for the new
Welcome page.

System:
Ubuntu 5.10
Mono 1.1.10
MonoDevelop 0.9
