I was trying to compile
MonoDevelop-r1255.tar.bz2
when I came across a what appears to be an error...
When I extract the archive, and then run ./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr I
get the following the first time:
Running libtoolize...
You should add the contents of `/usr/share/aclocal/libtool.m4' to
`aclocal.m4'.
Running aclocal ...
Running automake --gnu ...

but then if I run the same command again, configure works as expected.
I have no idea on automake, so this might something on my system.
