Do all your web sites use the same (updated) mono version? (You don't
mention which mono version you updated to).

I'm don't really have a clue why mono would suddenly use gmcs instead of
vbnc, my only guess would be to try changing 'Language="VB"'
'Language="VBNet"', though it really shouldn't make a difference.
