[Mono-osx] Debugger can't connect in MonoDevelop when mono runtime is included in app package

I'm running monodevelop 3.0.4.7 and am seeing this with an empty MonoMac
project.

When I choose the option in "Mac OS X Packaging" to include the mono runtime
in the app, and then start debugging, the debugger never connects. It
connects fine if I toggle this option back off. Is this expected, and is
there any way around it? Or is this option to embed the mono runtime
something I should only do in release builds that I don't expect to be able
to debug?
