[Mono-osx] What happens when a Mono is is ran without Mono?

I have a .NET assembly and I want to make it cross platform with minimal
hassle. I think Mono is the best solution to this problem.

However, I would like to understand what the user sees when Mono hasn't been
installed on his machine.

I've tried to run Mono Develop before installing the Mono runtime and
actually Nothing happened (not even a message to the user).

Did I miss something or this is just the way it is?
