I'm going to respond to myself here, mostly to add it into the
archives, but it appears that as of a year ago mdb was not supported
on OS X (See http://lists.ximian.com/pipermail/mono-osx/2007-March/000852.html)

Is that still the case? Is anyone working on this?
On a related note, why was mdb created? Why didn't the Mono project
just work within the gdb framework (which is all that the Debugging
page talks about)?
