In the apache-mime.types, find a line that starts

application/octet-stream and add "dmg" to the line.  At the very least, this 
will prompt firefox (and other browsers) to save it.  As for getting more 
specific (is there a defined mime type for dmg files?) I'm not sure, but the 
above will be a start.
