You might want to compare your environment variables:   
LD_LIBRARY_PATH, or just PATH in general between your Terminal.app  
session, and your xterm session. I also wouldn't expect _anything_ to  
display from Mono unless you're using X11, as AFAIK neither Tao nor  
Mono's Windows Forms support Quartz yet.
