[Mono-list] very basic lost beginner - help please

Mono isn't an application.  It's a language - a framework.  Mono is necessary to enable some other application to work.

Most people are kind of familiar with java.  Mono is like java.  If somebody gave you a java or mono application, then you need to install java or mono in order to run their application.
