[Mono-list] Custom Expander Android Style Container Widget?

I'm new to GTK containers and am wondering if I can get by with the  
existing controls or if I need to create a custom Expander container  
widget.  What I'd like to do is create an interface similar to what  
you see on the main screen of the Google Android phone.  Where you see  
a desktop with a button on the side.  Clicking the button then  
overlays the desktop with another panel.  You can then click the  
button on the panel to make it recess back to where it was.  This  
seems like it would be similar to an Expander container.  The catch is  
the Expander doesn't have the button that hovers near the edge of the  
container.  Any suggestions?
