Thanks, Stifu -- but I've finally managed to successfully build and 
install the 2.6 branch head.  I'll put together a list of the things I 
had to do that weren't mentioned on Shana's blog post at 
<http://shana.worldofcoding.com/en/mono_cygwin_tutorial.html> and pass 
it on to her in case she wants to update; it's mostly just extra Cygwin 
packages.
