[Mono-list] Which distro is the best for newbie?

I'd go the opposite and say Fedora. Fedora 12 is shortly going to get
2.6.1 put into testing as it's passing the QC on rawhide happily.

The choice of distro is really a personal choice. I've been with RedHat
since RH pre 1 and have never moved since (though I've tried plenty of
others). Obviously YMMV
