[Mono-list] The assembly mscorlib.dll was not found

I have now followed that page to the letter, including installing in
/opt/mono.

[mono] ~/src/mono/mono @ make
...
[mono] ~/src/mono/mono @ make install
...
[mono] ~/src/mono/mono @ type mcs
mcs is hashed (/opt/mono/bin/mcs)
[mono] ~/src/mono/mono @ mcs
The assembly mscorlib.dll was not found or could not be loaded.
It should have been installed in the
`/opt/mono/lib/mono/1.0/mscorlib.dll' directory.

So exactly the same effect other than I no longer get referred to
/usr/local.

Any other suggestions gratefully received.
