[Mono-list] Mono and MonoDevelop on Linux vs. Windows vs. MacOS

Hi,

I'm a newbie and I have a general question: 
I get the feeling that Mono and MonoDevelop works best on Linux (as opposed
to Windows or MacOS), is this correct?

I have a Mac, but I can easily install either Linux or Windows as virtual
machines.
I have no specific target for my work, just trying it out. So I am pretty
platform-independent.

Any advice is welcome!
