If your are new to Linux it is highly recommended to use a
pre-compiled package instead of compiling mono from source. Depending
on the linux distribution that you are using, download the binary
packages from here:

http://www.go-mono.com/mono-downloads/download.html

or here:

http://www.mono-project.com/Other_Downloads
