Thanks Eric,
I found the System.ServiceModel.dll - I was looking for (this assembly is
not in the normal mono package for ubuntu).
I referenced it as a private assembly in my project - in order not to change
installed assemblies.
But I see there are several incompatiblities that do currently not allow me
to port a WCF project to mono (WCF is in .NET framework 3.5).

Another question about building and updating mono on ubuntu:
"monocharge-latest.tar.gz" allows to update all mono assemblies.
Are all these assemblies platform independent (ubuntu / suse / osx /
windows) ?
if not, wouldn't it be good to have a set of platform independent assemblies
and another base set, that is installed through synaptic.

greetings
  Stefan
