[Mono-list] Lag when running mono

I am noticing a variable lag (1-8 seconds) on several systems running mono.  This lag prevents code from being executed for several seconds.  This is an inconsistent behavior among several systems and I have not been able to find a solution for it.   This happens for various codes I have written.  

For example, I type 'mono mono-test.exe' and hit enter and it will hang for a number of seconds before printing out "Hello World!".

Is this a common problem and is there a solution for it?
