I'm not sure about the dependencies for gdk, does it require X to be
installed? I'm relatively new to developing on linux so I don't really
get the whole X display model and how it relates to things like gdk.

F-Spot definitely generates crisp thumbs and does it fast so I'm going
to write some test code tomorrow or later this week.

Thanks,
Mike Cleaver
