When you are out of stack, there is no stack left to actually handle the
exception and throw the StackOverflow exception.
Although Mono could take advantage of a feature in the kernel to use a
separate stack in these conditions, it turns out that this stack is also
used for other operations, and can confuse the GC, so we recommend that
people not use it.
