You have the source code available (for Mono, Gnome, Gtk and others 
libraries) so theorically you can change something and recompile, in 
respect of licensing conditions. But changing something at this level 
can and will make you dive in major issues. What do you want to do 
exactly ?  "Customize" is too fuzzy.
