When you see the amazing performance of SWING, you understand clearly
the interest of having thin and lightweight layers, especially with UI
toolkits. In 2007, why spend years-person to redevelop something that
exists already, even in a slight different form ? Reuse the existing
code and the existing skills by the same occasion ! 

Integration is a much better choice than restating everything from
scratch.
