Mono on Debian Etch is quite up to date, so there's no much difference 
between Mono in Debian and Mono in distro X.

If you're using Debian Sarge there appear to be some outdated Mono 
packages on backports, but I wouldn't recommend them.

Oh and don't pay much attention to this page: 
http://pkg-mono.alioth.debian.org/ as its not kept up to date.
