[Mono-list] MONO

I am new to Mono but familiar with Asp.Net, can anybody tell me what exactly is mono used. i mean how can i build web application with the help of mono. 

Can mono be used in Windows for creating web application. If yes can somebody guide me how to do that ?

Do i need Dot Net Studio for it.
