yes, I have added

AddHandler mono .ashx

to the apache config. I'm testing now under xsp, anyway, which doesn't use
it, and getting the same results. I have created a simple handler under mono
(that just returns "Hello World" in the ProcessRequest method, and it works
fine.

So I guess handlers are working generically, but there is something in
Ajax.net <http://Ajax.net> triggering a bug/issue in mono.
