MMm. Are you guys running ubuntu? breezy?
gcc version 4.0.2 20050808 (prerelease) (Ubuntu 4.0.1-4ubuntu9)

I can reproduce the problem on a machine running ubuntu with gcc 4, but
not on a machine with novell suse 10 (gcc version 4.0.2 20050901
(prerelease)).
