... but when I booted my machine this evening and checked, I found the 
service was running just fine, and the application works as well (which

Maybe I was just tired yesterday: but anyway, it looks as though 
everything is as it should be.

Many thanks for your help and patience.  I'll now get it all written up, 
and when that's finished I'll send copies to those who have expressed an 
interest, for comments and corrections.
