I have tried compiling and running your script. Here it runs flawlessly.
My specifications:

loke:/tmp$ ./mysqltest.exe
4.1.12-Debian_1-log

Mono JIT compiler version 1.1.6, (C) 2002-2005 Novell, Inc and
Contributors. www.mono-project.com
        TLS: normal
GC: Included Boehm (with typed GC)
        SIGSEGV : normal
        Globalization: normal

MySQL Connector/Net: 1.04

loke:/tmp$ dpkg -s mysql-server-4.1
Package: mysql-server-4.1
Status: install ok installed
Priority: optional
Section: misc
Installed-Size: 31204
Maintainer: Christian Hammers <ch at debian.org>
Architecture: i386
Source: mysql-dfsg-4.1
Version: 4.1.12-1

It seems there is no problem running under 1.1.6. I will wait and see
with 1.1.7 and 1.1.8 when they are released under unstable - so far the
can only be found in experimental or from debian.meebye.net.
