Oh I knew that, I was talking about their similarities in server
resource usage. sorry for muddying the waters. 
 
On the issue of security, I'm new to the Apache arena so please, be
gentle with me. I'm now looking at that .htaccess method. Looking to
make use of that along with a cookie assigned at login. 

Is there a way to get Apache to read the FormsAuthentication.Encrypt -ed
cookie?
