Since I want to make a cross-platform app, I too would love to know the 
answers to this.

This is how I understand things (please correct me if I'm wrong):

  *  Gtk# is good.
  *  No Gnome or Gconf.
  *  Database functions require a database installed on the system (duh).
  *  Qt# is not free for Windows.
