[Mono-list] about installing Mono

if you are totally novice you should start with pre-built packages. you
my find them for several platforms at
http://www.go-mono.org/download.html
if you really want to compile the source you will need to have an
existing mono setup. This page gives you some instructions on how to do
it:

alternatively search the mailing list archives.
