Well, I think we should try to make a really simple and clean patch and then submit it to
the boehm maintainers - if they accept it, we can just wait for the next release and then
use it.

Even if we write our own GC, we still need a function which suspends/resumes all the
threads, so this code could be reused in our own GC.
