[Mono-list] mono-build.sh fails

I just tried to install Mono using the mono-build.sh script, using the
instructions on <http://www.go-mono.com/download.html#scripts>.
Unfortunately, this doesn't quite work on my up-to-date x86 Debian
unstable system.

After a lot of churning, the script eventually bails out with a lot
of errors:

I'm at a loss as to what to do; the web page seems to imply that
everything should just work.  What can I do?
