thx. not really surprising though. i should add that the test
setup was "identical" for all tests on a particular os platform.
on windows, all tests were done with a "default" 80x25 terminal
window.

sure, things can be improved. writing output to the filesystem
would be better from the perspective that this is probably of
about the same importance on most platforms (thus ~equally
optimized). but it would be still a very specific task making os
platform comparisons questionable anyway (thus not much to gain).
measuring a real-life app or a bench which is statistically more
or less well balanced ("representing" a certain class of
applications) would be better suited for that purpose. atm i do
not have the time unfortunately.
