I don't think that JITing is the reason for the slowdown.

On my 1GHz XP machine, it takes about 1 sec until the splash screen and
another 1 or 2 sec until the main window of SD 0.88c opens.  Compared to the
Java IDE Eclipse (which needs about 30 sec to startup) this is fast ;-)
