For every person who makes your complaint, there's a person who makes the
opposite complaint (i.e., strong displeasure with the GPL but willingness to
work on open source projects under other licenses).

This is surely not the right list to debate the philosophical merits of
specific open source licenses. The decision is long made, and you have to
make your choice to contribute or no. Whining isn't going to change
anything.
