Okay, I have now successfully gotten mono to build on SunOS 5.8/sparc. I
haven't tested to see if it works yet though...

The good news is that my porting to SunOS 5.8 helped to make mono much
more portable and thus should make it eaiser to port to various other
Unix systems.

The next step for me is to test mint under sparc to make sure it works
and to fix any bugs that exist in the code. I plan on spending my
weekend on this if I don't get around to it sooner.
