[Mono-list] Portscanner School Project...Probably using System.Net class

hey mono hackers,

For school I have to write a network port scanner in a
language of my choosing...in an effort to learn a new
language I have chosen C#

After finding your project on the net, I very much
would like to try and write it using your API an *nix
system.

my questions are as follows:
1) How far along are System.Net and any other network
classes?? 
Will my project be a viable one if I tell my professor
that I am committing to using your compiler?

2) Is there an open source OS that is more friendly
with mono than others?? 
I normally use RH linux or OBSD

3) Can I be of any service to the hackers that
maintain the networking classes?? 
I'm not really that experienced in dev/test...but
maybe I can write docs or somthing
