Here are the steps for using Net Provider 1.7.2 from source on Ubuntu intrepid

the previous version had issues with mono and didn't worked with firebird 2.1

"This release is only maintenance release. Contains only backported fix
for connecting to Firebird 2.1 server. No new features or other
bugfixes etc. were added."
