That would be my preference;   And that means that I rather not add a
dependency on GConf# at this point, but instead load it dynamically to
fetch any kind of information about the proxy (or even run the command
line gconftool to obtain the data).

No work has been done, lucene sounds like the right thing to do: add
support to it to the various providers.
