Nevermind just throughput of donations and community contributions.  This type of work benefits everybody including dedicated developers.

Also, in any organization (Xamarin) you have to work with employee turnover, and organization growth.  Shortening the learning curve and increasing productivity of everyone truly benefits everyone.

That being said, this might be all hot air.  Unless somebody chimes in who knows all about make, and knows the complexities of either changing it to something else, or integrating it into something like Xamarin Studio.  (Or Visual Studio.)
